Proud is a great opportunity to observe and celebrate the diversity and strength of artistic exploration emerging from all levels of the VCA. It is the Victorian College of the Arts Student Union’s annual acquisitive exhibition and prizes, and features a wide range of drawing, video, sculpture, painting, theatrical design, printmaking and photography from almost a hundred emerging artists with many different approaches to art making.
Now in its twelfth year, it is also an opportunity for students to strengthen the bridges it has developed into the wider artistic community over the years and, through organising the exhibition, develop a range of skills that will be invaluable to creating and maintaining opportunities for ourselves in the future. The prizes are a great example of this; designed to assist students in becoming successful practicing artists and creating links to the many arts organizations that provide them.
This exhibition is a very effective way for VCASU to support the unique needs of students at the VCA, and a great chance for anyone to come and enjoy the work that is made here. These are definitely things to be proud of.
